Frequently Asked Questions
Straightforward answers about our practice, our approach, and what to expect.
General
Functional medicine is a patient-centered approach that focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of disease and dysfunction. Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, we look at the body as an interconnected system — considering genetics, environment, lifestyle, hormones, gut health, and the complex interactions between all of these factors.
Conventional medicine excels at acute care and managing diagnosed diseases. Functional medicine complements this by asking "why" — why is this inflammation present, why are these hormones imbalanced, why is this patient fatigued despite normal standard labs. We use advanced testing, longer consultations, and personalized protocols to address these underlying drivers. We work alongside your existing healthcare team, never against it.
Yes. Functional medicine draws on peer-reviewed research in clinical nutrition, endocrinology, immunology, gastroenterology, and other fields. Our approach is grounded in science, and the testing and interventions we use are supported by published evidence. We are transparent about what the research shows and where it's still evolving.
FunctionALL Health is led by Caroline Snelwar-Fletcher, FNP-C, our Functional Medicine Director with decades of clinical experience, and Susie Spell, MSN, FNP-C, DipABLM, a board-certified nurse practitioner with over 30 years of experience. Together, they bring specialized expertise in BHRT, autoimmune management, gut health, medical weight loss, peptide therapies, and lifestyle medicine.
Insurance & Cost
We operate on a fee-for-service basis and do not bill insurance directly. However, we provide detailed superbills (itemized receipts with CPT codes) that you can submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Many patients with PPO plans receive partial reimbursement. We recommend contacting your insurer before your first visit to understand your out-of-network benefits.
Initial consultation fees, lab testing costs, and follow-up visit pricing are provided when you contact us. We believe in full transparency about costs before you commit. The investment reflects the time, expertise, and thoroughness that goes into each patient's care — including extended consultations, advanced testing, and personalized treatment protocols.
Yes. Our services are eligible for payment through Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA). We accept major credit cards and HSA/FSA cards directly.
Appointments
Yes. We offer both in-person and telehealth consultations. Telehealth visits use a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. Lab work can be completed at a local draw site, and results are reviewed together via video. Telehealth availability may vary by state.
Initial consultations are typically 60–90 minutes. Follow-up visits are 30–45 minutes. We intentionally schedule longer appointments so there is time for thorough discussion — you will never feel rushed.
Please bring any recent lab results (within the past 12 months), a list of current medications and supplements, and your complete health history. We'll send you intake forms ahead of your visit so we can make the most of your time together.
Our Approach
No. We work alongside your existing healthcare team. Functional medicine is complementary — we communicate with your primary care physician and specialists as needed, and we never advise discontinuing prescribed treatments without proper coordination.
This varies significantly depending on your concerns, how long you've been experiencing them, and how your body responds to interventions. Some patients notice improvements within weeks; others require several months of consistent effort. We set realistic expectations during your initial consultation and track measurable progress at every follow-up.
Peptide therapies use targeted compounds that work with your body's natural processes to support specific outcomes — such as improved cognitive function, energy production, tissue healing, immune support, and body composition. We offer a range of peptide protocols tailored to individual patient needs and goals. Your provider will explain which peptides may be appropriate for your situation and why.
Yes, when clinically appropriate. Our nurse practitioners are licensed to prescribe. However, we also utilize bioidentical hormones, peptide therapies, nutrition plans, lifestyle modification, and targeted supplementation. The goal is always to use the most effective approach for your specific situation.
